Two twelve-month Limited Term positions
Wilfrid Laurier University - The Department of Archaeology & Classical Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications  for two twelve-month Limited Term positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2003, subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidates, who will have a PhD or be certain of its completion before beginning the appointment, should be competent to teach the following configuration of courses: (1)  Greek history, civilization, and language (from the introductory to the senior undergraduate levels) or  (2)  both ancient languages,  Greek and Roman history and civilization, and a course in translation in the development of Latin literature.  Other requirements include a demonstrated excellence in teaching, evidence of a research program, publications and/or providing a sample of writing.  Applicants are asked to submit a curriculum vitae, a covering letter outlining research interests, a short teaching dossier, a writing sample (max. 25 pages) and to arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to: Professor C.J. Simpson, Chair, Department of Archaeology & Classical Studies, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, N2L 3C5 by March 18, 2003. A teaching term appointment in Historical Studies

Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a small (1100 students) Liberal Arts and Science institution and the Corner Brook campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Memorial is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and, as the Province's only university, plays an integral role in the educational and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador through offering diverse graduate and undergraduate programmes to almost 16,000 students. Corner Brook (population 22,000) is a safe and friendly city with excellent recreational and cultural facilities, situated in an area of great natural beauty, overlooking the Bay of Islands and affording a spectacular view of the Blomidon Mountains. The City is some 80 kilometers from Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and 10 kilometers from Marble Mountain, one of Eastern Canada's premier downhill ski resorts.

The College seeks applications for the following tenure-track and teaching term appointments.  Except where specified, these positions require the completion or near completion of a Ph.D. Note that, unless otherwise specified, all teaching term appointments will be of the contract period of August 18, 2003 to April 30, 2004.

Historical Studies - A teaching term appointment.
The successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses in introductory history and in at least two of the following areas: history of Greece and Rome, medieval history, and/or early modern European history. These courses are offered as an essential component of the Historical Studies programme.

All appointments are subject to budgetary approval. Salary will reflect qualifications and experience in accordance with the Collective Agreement governing faculty at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Elisabeth Alföldi-Rosenbaum Fellowship
to the Canadian Academic Institute in Athens
1 September 2003 to 31 May 2004

The Canadian Archaeological Institute at Athens invites applicants for the Elisabeth Alföldi-Rosenbaum Fellowship to the Canadian Academic Institute in Athens from 1 September 2003 to 31 May 2004.

The applicant must be pursuing graduate or post-doctoral studies and have a clear need to work in Greece, and must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. The areas of research should follow those of Prof. Alföldi, namely Hellenistic to Early Byzantine, in the fields of archaeology, art history, history, epigraphy or related topics.

In addition to his or her studies, the Fellow will help the Assistant to the Director of CAIA with the work in the office and library (10 hours per week). Therefore, some previous experience in Greece and some knowledge of Modern Greek is an asset.

Stipend of $5000 and free accommodations in the CAIA hostel for the period of the fellowship.

L'institut academique canadien-L'institut d'archeologie à Athenes sollicite des candidatures pour la bourse d'études Elisabeth Alföldi-Rosenbaum à l'Institut canadien académique à Athènes du 1er septembre 2003 au 31 mai 2004.

Le candidat doit poursuivre des études avancées ou post-doctorales et doit avoir besoin de séjourner en Grèce, et doit être citoyen canadien, ou immigrant reçu. La recherche doit suivre celle de Prof. Alföldi, à savoir les époques hellénistique à byzantine ancienne, dans les domaines de l'archéologie, l'histoire de l'art, l'histoire, l'épigraphie, ou un sujet apparenté.

En plus de ses études, le Boursier assistera l'assistant du directeur de l'ICAA dans le travail de bureau et de la bibliothèque (10 heures par semaine). On suggère donc, de l'expérience antérieure en Grèce ainsi qu'une connaissance même limitée de grec moderne.

Allocation de $5000, et logement à l'hôtellerie de l'ICAA pendant le séjour.
