PRIX DE LA SCÉC REMIS LORS DU CONGRÈS ANNUEL POUR LA MEILLEURE COMMUNICATION PAR UN ÉTUDIANT DE DEUXIÈME OU TROISIÈME CYCLE

En 2010, le conseil de la SCÉC a voté en faveur de l'institution d'un prix annuel pour la meilleure communication d'un étudiant de deuxième ou troisième cycle lors du congrès annuel de la SCÉC. Le congrès de London, du 8 au 10 mai 2012, sera l'occasion de la troisième édition de ce concours.

1. Le concours est ouvert à tous les étudiants membres de la SCÉC et inscrits à un programme de maîtrise ou de doctorat. Ils doivent être membres en règle de la SCÉC (donc avoir payé leur cotisation pour l'année en cours) et leur communication devra avoir été acceptée pour présentation au congrès annuel par le comité organisateur responsable du programme.
2. Les étudiants doivent soumettre le texte de leur communication en format électronique (préférablement .PDF, ou .DOC .DOCX s'il n'y a pas de police spéciale) au président du Comité de sélection (Patrick Baker, Professeur, Dépt. d'histoire, Université Laval: patrick.baker@hst.ulaval.ca) avant la date limite du mercredi 25 avril. Il devrait s'agir essentiellement de la version écrite de la communication orale qui sera présentée au congrès et non pas d'une version plus longue ou élaborée. Sa longueur devra respecter le temps de parole alloué par les organisateurs de la conférence.
3. Le Comité de sélection choisira normalement trois finalistes. Les membres du Comité assisteront ensuite aux présentations de ces finalistes lors du congrès. La qualité de la présentation orale sera un critère important pour décider du gagnant. Les candidats seront informés avant le début du congrès s'ils sont parmi les finalistes ou non.
4. La présentation du prix au gagnant sera faite lors du banquet de clôture du congrès. Les étudiants qui participeront au concours sont donc encouragés de s'inscrire au banquet longtemps à l'avance. La SCÉC remboursera en entier aux finalistes le prix de leur inscription au banquet.
5. Un prix de $100 et un certificat seront remis au gagnant. Son nom sera ensuite annoncé dans le BCÉA.

CAC PRIZE FOR THE BEST PAPER BY A GRADUATE STUDENT AT THE ANNUAL MEETING

In 2010, CAC Council voted to institute an annual Prize for the best paper given by a graduate student at the CAC Annual Meeting.  It will be awarded for the third time at the Annual Meeting at University of Western Ontario, London, 8-10 May 2012.

1. All student members of the CAC currently studying in an M.A. or Ph.D. graduate programme are eligible to enter. They must be members of the CAC in good standing (i.e., with their current year's dues paid up) and their paper must have been accepted by the programme organizing committee for presentation at the CAC's Annual Meeting.
2. Students should submit a written version of their paper in electronic format (preferably .PDF or .DOC, .DOCX if there's no special font) to the Chair of the CAC Awards Committee (Professor Patrick Baker, Dept. of History, University Laval: patrick.baker@hst.ulaval.ca) before the deadline of Wednesday 25 April. It should be in essence the written version of the oral paper to be delivered at the conference, its length appropriate to the time limit granted to the presentation. Students should not submit a longer, more developed version of their paper.
3. The CAC Awards Committee will establish a short-list normally of three papers. Members of the Awards Committee will then attend the short-listed papers during the course of the Annual Meeting. The quality of oral delivery of the paper will be an important criterion in determining the winner. Candidates will be advised shortly before the beginning of the conference whether they are short-listed or not.
4. The announcement of the winner will be made and the prize presented at the Banquet at the close of the conference. Graduate students who enter the competition are thus encouraged to sign up for the banquet well in advance of the conference. Those short-listed will be reimbursed the full cost of their banquet ticket by the CAC.
5. A prize of $100 will be awarded to the winner, along with a certificate. The winner's name will also be announced on the CCB.

PÉTITION POUR SAUVER L'ANNÉE PHILOLOGIQUE / PETITION TO SAVE L'ANNÉE PHILOLOGIQUE

Chers Collègues,

L’Année Philologique, outil irremplaçable de bibliographie de l’Antiquité gréco-latine, est menacée à très court terme de disparaître dans sa forme actuelle, voire de cesser sa parution.

La cause de cette menace est simple : la rédaction allemande de L’Année philologique, la Zweigstelle Heidelberg, doit fermer ses portes à la fin de l’année civile 2012 si aucune source de financement durable n’est trouvée.

Cette fermeture programmée aurait, si elle prenait effet à la date prévue, des conséquences désastreuses sur l’ensemble du projet : avec elle c’est toute la recherche en langue allemande, dont chacun sait l’importance pour les humanités classiques, qui cesserait d’être couverte par notre publication.

Si aucune solution n’est trouvée, les conséquences se résumeront à la transformation d’un projet à haute valeur scientifique en un moteur de recherche au rabais ou la disparition pure et simple de la publication.

Dear Colleagues,

The Année Philologique, a critical and analytical bibliography of Greco-Latin Antiquity, is threatened, in the very near future, with disappearing in its current form, and perhaps with simply ceasing publication.

The cause of this threat is simple : the German office of the Année Philologique, the Zweigstelle Heidelberg, must close its doors at the end of the fiscal year 2012, unless a durable source of funding is found.

If it were to take effect at the planned date, this programmed closure would have disastrous consequences for the entire project : with it, the totality of German-language research, whose importance for the classical humanities is known to all, would cease to be covered by our publication.

Unless a solution is found, the consequences will boil down to the transformation of a project of high scientific value into a bargain-basement search engine, or the outright disappearance of the publication.
