Conference: two distinct websites

Thank you for having used the Open Conference System to submit your abstract and register for the next CAC Annual Conference.

Those who wish to take part in the Conference without presenting a paper are invited to register on the Conference website. This will allow you to receive information pertaining to the Conference itself, the circulars, as well as consult the list of accepted papers and read the abstracts.

This operation is distinct from registration (i.e. payment for the conference and the banquet) which must be done on the internet website of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Banquet

This year, the banquet will take place at the restaurant Le Parlementaire, located inside the Parliament Building, home of Québec's National Assemby. The price of $85 ($60 for students) includes an aperitif, a 4-courses gourmet meal featuring québécois local products, as well as wine.

Looking forward to welcoming you in Quebec City!

FORMAL INVITATION FOR PROPOSALS TO HOST THE 2019 CONFERENCE
APPEL OFFICIEL DE CANDIDATURES POUR L'ORGANISATION DU CONGRÈS ANNUEL EN 2019

From Bonnie MacLachlan

I would formally like to invite all university Classics departments and programmes in Ontario to consider hosting the CAC Conference and Annual General Meeting in May 2019. All interested departments or programmes are asked to write briefly to the President (at bmacl@uwo.ca) as soon as possible and before April 15, 2016 to indicate their willingness to host the Annual Meeting in 2019.

Council asks that potential hosts provide a brief rationale why their particular department/programme is interested in hosting the meeting and well placed to do so. Are there any factors which would make a meeting at their institution in the given year particularly appropriate? Would their university be willing to provide support (both financial and logistical) for such a venture? Are there suitable accommodations available (both on-campus residence rooms and moderately priced hotels) in easy reach of the proposed meeting location? Potential volunteers might usefully consult the Guidelines for Annual Meeting document (in English and in French) posted on the CAC/SCEC website.

Council plans to discuss possible locations for the 2019 Annual Meeting at its next Council meeting and to make a firm decision before the Annual Meeting in Quebec City in May 2016 at the latest.

As President, I would be happy to discuss this matter informally with any department or programme prior to their making a formal expression of interest in hosting such a meeting. Please feel free to contact me at bmacl@uwo.ca.

::::::::: ::::::: ::::: ::: ::::: ::::::: :::::::::

N'hésitez surtout pas à me contacter: bmacl@uwo.ca.

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS
8-MONTH TEACHING TERM APPOINTMENT

From Cathy Kieley

Memorial University of Newfoundland will make teaching term appointments in the Faculty of Arts, subject to budgetary approval and to sufficient enrolments, during the Spring and Fall semesters of 2016 and Winter semester of 2017. Departments and programs in the Faculty of Arts that may make such appointments are Anthropology, Classics, English, French & Spanish (including the Frecker program in Saint-Pierre), History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology. The minimum qualification for teaching term appointments is normally a completed doctoral degree in the discipline, though in some cases a master's degree in the discipline together with appropriate teaching experience may be an acceptable qualification. For further details on these appointments, please contact the head of the appropriate department. Please forward, by March 25, 2016, a curriculum vitae, evidence of effective teaching, and the names and addresses of three referees, to Dr. Lynne Phillips, Dean of Arts, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland, A1C 5S7.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. Memorial University is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from qualified women and men, visible minorities, aboriginal people, and persons with disabilities.

Additional information: The Department of Classics invites applications for an 8-month teaching term appointment to begin September 1, 2016. The successful applicant will be expected to teach six courses (three per semester), including courses in mythology, Latin and/or Greek, and other Greek and Roman studies courses. In addition to the material specified above, please include with your application a sample syllabus for an advanced seminar course on a topic of your choice. For more information about the Department of Classics, please visit our website at http://www.mun.ca/classics/. If you have any questions about the position or application process, please contact Dr. Tana Allen (tallen@mun.ca).
