IX International Colloquium: “Thinking Antiquity in a Contemporary Key: Interdisciplinary Approaches and New Paradigms”

9TH INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM

THINKING ANTIQUITY IN A CONTEMPORARY KEY: INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES AND NEW PARADIGMS

La Plata, 21 – 23 June, 2023

The Center for Hellenic Studies of the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata resumes the organization of its International Colloquium. Its 9th edition, “Thinking Antiquity in a Contemporary Key: Interdisciplinary Approaches and New Paradigms”, will be held in the city of La Plata on June 21, 22 and 23, 2023.

The 9th Colloquium proposes to explore, think and debate, from a broad interdisciplinary perspective, the emergence of the paradigms that have given rise to new ways of studying classical texts and ancient culture in relation to the interests of our time. To this end, it will count with the participation of renowned specialists who will present the original results of their research and the challenges they face. Simultaneously, it invites national and foreign scholars to present the progress of their research, within the framework of discussion and collective learning that presuppose interaction with colleagues and students.

The Colloquium proposes the following modalities of participation:

  • Lectures and plenary sessions: by specially invited national and foreign specialists, on topics of interest in various areas of Greco-Latin culture.
  • Paper presentations: framed in thematic panels, according to the list provided below. Those interested in participating should send an abstract of up to 300 words before March 30, 2023, for evaluation by the Scientific Committee. Students presenting papers must do so with the endorsement of a professor, whose name, position and e-mail address must be included in the The thematic selection of the panels contemplates the main theoretical lines of current research. If anyone interested in participating does not find their studies thematically or methodologically reflected in it, please let us know.

  • Agora: a space designed to present and discuss the progress of collective research projects. Each group will have 10 minutes to present its work and a virtual space on the web page of the Colloquium, if deemed necessary, to post consultation material (project rationale—text or video files—, individual works of the members framed in the proposal, guidelines for discussion with the audience, etc.) in advance. Agora proposes to privilege dialogue over exposition. For this reason, the brief presentation will be followed by a space for discussion (20 minutes), in order to promote the exchange between the speakers and the audience. Those interested in participating in the agora sessions should send a summary of the collective project of up to 500 words before March 30, 2023, for evaluation by the Scientific Committee.
  • 5MT (My Thesis in Five Minutes, in its Spanish initials): a space dedicated to young PhDs (5 years of seniority), who are challenged to share, in five minutes, the topic and general development of their thesis.

Agora or 5MT participants will receive the corresponding certification. Attendees will also receive a certificate for their presence in the Colloquium.

The proceedings with the presented papers will be published online (with ISSN) and the presentations of the invited professors will appear in a collective volume.
