Tenure-track Assistant Professor level in Classical Studies
University of Waterloo
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Classical Studies beginning September 1, 2003. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Classical Studies, and an ability to teach a variety of courses in classical civilizations and languages. A strong background in Latin language is desirable. The successful candidate should have the ability to apply computer-related technology to teaching and research. Consideration of applications will commence May 1, 2003. Limited term appointment
 at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor
Trent University
DEPARTMENT OF ANCIENT HISTORY & CLASSICS, invites applications for a limited term appointment of eight months at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and teaching experience, to begin September 1, 2003.  The appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate is expected to teach an introductory course (two semesters) in Roman history (c. 150 BCE to 68 CE), two second year level (one semester each) courses in Classical Civilization/Women's Studies (Women in Greek/Roman antiquity), and a second year course (two semesters) in intermediate Greek.  Applicants may have the option of converting the position from one of eight months (September 2003 to April 2004) to one of ten months (September 2003 to June 2004) by repeating the Roman history course in the University's programme in Oshawa one day a week from September to April. Applicants, should demonstrate both  good teaching ability and potential as scholars, and should have a Ph.D. or be very near completion.

Candidates should send a letter of application and their curriculum vitae, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the above address; dossiers would be helpful in accelerating the process of selection. The deadline for receipt of applications is March 15, 2003.

CAIA 2003
Second conference of student papers

October 4-5, 2003
Following the success of the first student conference in September 2001, the Canadian Academic Institute in Athens is holding its second conference of student papers. The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Classical Studies of the University of Waterloo. The meetings will be held at the University of Waterloo, concurrently with another CAIA sponsored conference on the Ancient and Modern Olympics, at the University of Wilfred Laurier. It will be possible for students to attend some of the lectures there, on Saturday, October 4.

Senior undergraduate or graduate students are invited to submit research papers on any subject of Greek studies, ancient to modern, in any discipline.

Please submit your abstract electronically to sheila.campbell@utoronto.ca, clearly stating your academic affiliation, the time required, i.e. 15 or 30 minutes, and whether any a.v. aides are required, by April 30. Notification of acceptance of the paper will be sent by May 30, 2003.

Please indicate if you need accommodation in Waterloo.
