Qualifications: We invite applications from broadly trained candidates with a critical and

creative eye on the study of Mediterranean antiquity and its connections to our modern world,

whose research focuses on ancient Mediterranean cultures, languages, and literatures, or in the

history and reception thereof. The successful candidate may specialize in any aspect of

Mediterranean antiquity but must demonstrate excellence in teaching Greek and Latin at all

levels, as well as courses with a broader appeal (mythology, culture, literature, reception, etc.).

In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop courses at all levels

related to their research expertise. We are especially interested in candidates who have

expertise in some aspect of the relationship between Mediterranean antiquity and race,

ethnicity, and/or gender, and who are able to teach courses related to these topics. The Classics

program at Acadia values advising and mentoring students who come from a wide range of

disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds, and so candidates will be particularly

competitive if they have professional and personal experiences that equip them to work

successfully with diverse student populations and will, through their engaged research and

teaching, contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community at Acadia. In

addition to the 3-2 teaching load, expectations include an active research program, student

mentorship, the supervision of senior theses, and service both within and outside of the

department. The successful candidate must have PhD in hand by the start of the appointment.
