CLST 200 – Greek History CLAS 822 – Greek Archaeology I

The Department of Classics and Archaeology at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching courses in CLST 200 – Greek History. This is an in-person teaching, introductory course with an expected enrolment of 130 students; CLAS 822 – Greek Archaeology I. This is an in-person teaching, graduate course with an expected enrolment of 10 students. Candidates should have a Ph.D and teaching experience at the University level in Classics. This is a fall/winter term appointment for the period September 1st, 2024 to April 30th, 2025, with classes in Fall session from September 3rd 2024 to December 6th 2024 and in the Winter session from January 6th 2025 to April 4th 2025.

Course Description:

CLST 200 Greek History Units: 3.00

Survey of the Greek World from the Late Bronze Age to the death of Cleopatra. Social, religious and political developments among the major powers, Athens, Sparta and Hellenistic kingdoms.

Learning Hours: 126 (36 Lecture, 90 Private Study)

Requirements: Prerequisite Level 2 or above.

 

CLAS 822  Greek Archaeology I   Units: 3.00

This course focuses on architecture and the development of town planning in ancient Greece. Various building types, both sacred and secular, will be studied.
